Confused About Treatment Options
Veranda 40sFemale
I’m 40 this year and have PCOS with low AMH levels. My doctor suggested IVF, but I’m unsure if it’s right for me. My husband also smokes does that affect our chances?

Answer from the Doctor
At 40, with PCOS and low AMH, your doctor’s recommendation for IVF is reasonable. IVF allows eggs to be retrieved directly from your ovaries and fertilized in a lab, helping to overcome challenges related to egg quantity or quality. Since your husband smokes, it’s best for him to quit, as smoking can lower sperm quality and affect success rates.
Before deciding, have a detailed discussion with your doctor about your test results, age, and fertility goals. They can guide you on whether IVF is the best option or if other treatments might work better. Remember each couple’s situation is unique, so a personalized plan gives you the best chance for success.
